Gladys Mae Jones, passed away peacefully in her sleep August 15th, at age 89 surrounded by her family. She was born the youngest of five children to Mermon and Richetta Jones, in the city of Hopewell, VA. Gladys was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, the late George W. Whitehead. Together they enjoyed 45 happy years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her four siblings, the late Lloyd Jones, Mary (Virginia) Monger, Eleanor Booker and Doris Washington.
Gladys is survived by her three children Alfred L. Whitehead of Woonsocket, RI, Angela E.
Whitehead of Pawtucket, RI, Andre W. Whitehead of Rancho Cucamonga, CA. She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Jermaine Whitehead-Bailey, Krystal Crawford, Ambrose Mendes, Enrico Davis, Ashleigh Whitehead, and Jordan Whitehead, 11 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends that she was very fond of.
Gladys became a devout student of the Bible in 1977 and in 1979 she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She faithfully served in the Lincoln congregation, where she had the privilege to serve in the full-time ministry.
Gladys had many passions in life, which included music and dancing. She loved traveling and visiting out-of-state family. She also loved spending time with her family, and many nights on the phone for hours with her sister. Above all, she was known for preaching and teaching in her local community. Her fun-loving personality was truly infectious to us all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Saturday, August 21st from 3:00 - 5:00pm at Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln. Burial is private.
